Questions
Questions and answers
What does Tunody do?
You choose a song type, a piano and a length. Tunody composes a solo-piano song, plays it on that piano, and gives you the audio and the MIDI file.
What piano? How is the piano instrument generated?
Tunody plays each song on the piano you choose from the list, or on the piano Auto picks to suit the song type. Every one is PianoFlex, our own piano instrument. PianoFlex computes each note from a model of the hammer, the strings, the soundboard, the dampers and the pedals, then places it in a room heard through microphones. Find PianoFlex at flexmusiclabs.com.
Do I describe the song in words?
No. You choose from the lists. The only words you can type are a title for the song, and it does not change the music.
Is it AI?
No. No AI model makes the music or the sound. ComposerFlex works from rules of harmony, melody, rhythm and form, and PianoFlex computes each note from a model of the piano.
What does it cost?
Creating songs costs nothing. You start with 20 credits, and each song uses one. If you have fewer than 2 credits you are topped up to 2 each day (the day begins at 00:00 UTC), and every month, on the day you joined, you are topped up to 20. Credits do not add up or carry over. A subscription option is in the works.
How can I create more songs?
We're considering a paid account. Today, you can download the full ComposerFlex application and create as many songs as you want on your own computer, with much more control. Visit flexmusiclabs.com for more details.
Will there be a paid subscription?
We're thinking about it.
Will there be an API?
Yes, we're considering that as well.
What do I get, and how long is it kept?
A MIDI file (the notes of the song, which music software can open) and the audio as an MP3. The audio is kept for 7 days. After that only the MIDI is kept, and you can create the audio again for 1 credit.
What do Dynamics, Song variation and Random style do?
Dynamics sets how much the song does: Dry is plainer, with less ornament and energy, and Dynamic adds more; the middle plays the song type as written. Song variation changes how strongly each of the song's musical parts plays, once for the whole song, from as written to varied. Random style draws a new mix of musical parts for the song instead of using a song type, from Smart to Wild. All three are optional.
What do Key, Tempo and Scale do?
Each one starts on Auto, which leaves the choice to the song type. Set the Key, a Tempo from 20 to 300 beats per minute, or the Scale to fix it for your song. You can set one, two or all three.
What is the seed?
The seed is the number a song was created from. The Info button on each song opens its Info window, which shows it, with the versions of ComposerFlex and PianoFlex that created the song. A seed is not expected to give the same song with a different version, and we don't promise that it will give the same song again.
Which sign-in can I use?
Your email address (you get a one-time code) or a Google account. There are no passwords.
What may I do with the songs?
Songs created on a free account are for personal use. The Terms explain what that means and how commercial use works. Read them before you create your first song.
Can I delete my songs and my account?
Yes. Each song has a Delete button, and the Account page has buttons that delete all your songs or your whole account, with every song in it.
Do I need ComposerFlex or PianoFlex?
No. Tunody works in your browser. It uses the same music and piano engines as ComposerFlex and PianoFlex, Windows programs that work offline on your own computer.
